Emo is a term we most often associated as a certain fashion trend or certain type of person. However it is a known fact that Emo or Emotive actually started as a type of music and quickly changed into a well know fashion for the teenager. The term "Emo" is so stereotyped.

An Emo would ideally be a teenager with tight jeans, irrespective of gender, sporting bangs or a long fringe. The idea is to have the bangs brushed to one side or over either one or both eyes. The Emo’s hair would be dyed black and worn straight. Usually, the tight t-shirts worn by an Emo would have short-sleeves and would flaunt the names of rock stars or rock bands or couplets. The designed shirts are usually complimented with studded belts and belt buckles.

We can also identify an Emo with the canvas sneakers and sometimes skate shoes. They are also known to prefer old and beaten black shoes and even thick horn rimmed glasses.

Emo fashion has come a long way today and has successfully changed with time and the teenager. Earlier the emo trends included straight and un-parted hair – all combed back and tight fitting sweaters. The shirts used to be the button-down variety and they wore jackets over. This fad fashion era has passed and the ‘bling’ and under tone has arrived. In recent years, the emo has been associated as a stereotype and teenagers that are emotional, sensitive and shy.
